What a way to start the next update. I make it into the Connecting Cave and manage to catch a Meditite that I named Aiai for obvious reasons. I was very happy to meet Aiai considering he could have been a Zubat. Anyway, he was about ten levels lower than the rest of the squad, so I decided to stay in the Connecting Cave near the doctor and fight wild Pokemon til he caught up a few levels.
Came across an Axew and thought "Hey, this guy probably gives a lot of EXP!" I manage to confuse him on my first turn, but he breaks free and uses Dragon Rage. A quick look at my HP and sure enough its at 39. I watched helplessly as the always-40-HP-damage Dragon Rage completely drained Aiai's health bar. And just like that, he was gone.
RIP Aiai. We barely knew ye.
For better or worse, I caught a Spoink shortly afterwards on Route 8 so my Psychic capabilities were immediately reinstated. Unfortunately, this is yet another Pokemon that can't learn False Swipe. I haven't checked on everyone in the PC or at the Daycare, but I'm not going to take up a 6th spot just for a False Swipe holder, though that may change if I start killing Pokemon before I can catch them. Every new area is a bit nerve wracking since I'm 10-12 levels higher than the wild Pokemon.
Continued on through Ambrette Town. Picked up an Onix (Colossus) in the Glittering Cave. At first I was let down, knowing that I couldn't evolve him. And if I couldn't evolve him, then he was useless. But when I got to Cyllage City, I found an NPC willing to trade their Steelix for a Luvdisc. Went out to the ocean and was able to catch one within city limits, so in the end I was able to get a Steelix (Thumper) after all! And the bonus is that he gets boosted experience. However, he's going to stay in the PC for now. I'm very happy with my current line-up. We'll see how things go.
